A chip developed by IMS CHIPS with an edge length of 3 mm and a 50 Āµm thickness containing 1500 pixel points is the center piece of the Retina Implant. The Retina Implant AG uses it to test the technology for future retina implants that will be giving back partial sight to blind people. The development as a joint research project thus far was sponsored by the Bundesministerium fĆ¼r Bildung und Forschung. 20 patents have so far resulted from it.
On Sunday, April 22nd, this visualizing chip was portrayed on āDie Sendung mit der Mausā. You can watch this broadcast here: Visualizing chip for the blind.
