IMS CHIPS at the cluster conference in Baden-Baden
Last Monday, IMS CHIPS was represented at the renowned microTEC Südwest cluster conference in Baden-Baden. Also on bord: a special invitation in the form of a specially made invitation wafer, which our Managing Director Mr. Quack personally presented to the Minister of State Krauss.

Presentation on germanium-on-silicon detectors
Our co-worker Lena Schad was invited as speaker and impressed the specialist audience with her presentation:
“Germanium-on-silicon near-infrared detector systems for micromedical sensor applications”
At the center of her contribution was our Ge-on-Si detector technology developed in collaboration with the Institute of Semiconductor Engineering at the University of Stuttgart (IHT). Various detector architectures were presented – from the classic photodiode to the single-photon detector.
Particular attention was paid to our Ge-on-Si on-chip spectrometer and the comprehensive microsystem integration – from the light source to the detector chip – for medical sensor applications in the near-infrared range (1000 – 1600 nm).
Relevance and results
- Ge-on-Si as a cost-efficient and scalable alternative to the conventional InGaAs technology
- Focus on miniaturization and system integration for innovative applications in medical technology

Further contributions from IMS CHIPS
Our co-worker Ulrike Passlack was also actively represented at the conference: As a specialist group spokesperson, she was available for an interview by microTEC Südwest – as was Niels Quack in his role as Managing Director of IMS CHIPS.

An all-round successful event
Around 200 participants from industry and the scientific world attended this year´s cluster conference. In addition to exciting presentations and a high-quality poster session, the event offered a wide range of opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas.
Said Lena Schad –
“It was a successful two days with exciting presentations and great conversations, which may even lead to one or two new partnerships.”
We´re looking back on the event with great satisfaction – inspired by new contacts, professional exchange and fresh impetus for our future work.
