Germanium Quantum Detectors
develops novel photodetectors with support from IMS CHIPS
The start-up Germanium Quantum Detectors is working on bringing an innovative germanium-on-silicon photodetector to market for applications in quantum communication, medical technology, and autonomous driving. The technology is based on highly sensitive Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPADs), capable of detecting individual photons and precisely measuring their arrival times.
By incorporating germanium, the detectors achieve efficient infrared light detection while operating at significantly higher temperatures than many comparable systems. This enables more compact, energy-efficient, and cost-effective solutions across a wide range of applications.
To further develop the technology and accelerate its path toward industrial deployment, the founding team works closely with IMS CHIPS. The photodetectors are manufactured at the IMS CHIPS cleanroom facilities, where the team benefits from extensive expertise and highly specialized infrastructure for microelectronics and sensor development.
We are pleased to support Germanium Quantum Detectors on its journey and wish the founders every success in the continued development of their company.
