Ulrike Passlack Joins the Board of microTEC Südwest: Insights into Her New Role

A conversation about networks, visibility, and the future of microTEC Südwest.

For many years, Ulrike Passlack has been actively involved in the technology network microTEC Südwest. Following her election to the Board of Directors, she is now taking on additional responsibilities. In this interview, she shares her thoughts on the importance of strong networks, the role of IMS CHIPS, and her goals for the years ahead.

Ms. Passlack, you have been involved with microTEC Südwest for many years. What makes this network special to you?

microTEC Südwest brings together people from industry, research, and development who share a common goal: driving innovation forward. For me, the network is a place where new ideas emerge, collaborations grow, and knowledge is openly exchanged. This cross-disciplinary and cross-industry dialogue is what makes the network particularly valuable.

How did your involvement with microTEC Südwest begin?

I joined the network during my first year at IMS CHIPS. At the time, a colleague introduced me to the network, and I quickly recognized the opportunities it offered. Over the years, I became increasingly involved, first through technical contributions and later in representative roles. In particular, serving as spokesperson for the Micro Medical Technology expert group broadened my perspective on the many possibilities the network provides.

What significance does microTEC Südwest have for IMS CHIPS?

The network offers an excellent platform to showcase our expertise while also benefiting from the experience and knowledge of other members. Over the years, we have continuously strengthened our presence within the network and initiated valuable collaborations. These connections generate new impulses for both our research activities and future applications and projects.

You have been elected to the Board of Directors. What are your priorities in this new role?

One of my key goals is to further strengthen the network and actively foster exchange among its members. At the same time, I would like to help identify emerging topics at an early stage and connect relevant stakeholders. What I find particularly exciting is acting as a bridge between research, industry, and practical applications.

Where do you see microTEC Südwest in the coming years?

I am convinced that the importance of the network will continue to grow. Topics such as intelligent sensor systems, medical technology, digitalization, and sustainable technologies increasingly require interdisciplinary collaboration. This is exactly where microTEC Südwest provides the ideal platform. Initiatives such as Chip Connect already demonstrate how successful this approach can be.

What are you personally looking forward to most?

Above all, I am looking forward to helping shape the future of the network together with many dedicated and inspiring people. Over the years, numerous professional and personal relationships have developed. This community is truly special and continues to motivate me every day.

I would like to thank microTEC Südwest for the trust they have placed in me and look forward to the years ahead and the opportunities we will create together.
